Finally Philips has started selling recessed lights that do not require retrofitting and bulky cans! The slim lights are perfect and are so much better in looks than the retrofitting ones. As with any other Philips hue lights, they seamlessly connect to bridge and remote. Bit expensive, but worth the price as the installation is so much easier than retrofitting.
Awesome light!

The ultra thin light is super easy to install and can fit in a ton of spaces! The separate power box is only slightly thicker than the light it’s self and well built.

I have been a Hue customer for years, and have my entire home fit with Hue lights. This light in particular is the only one I’ve had issues with. It does not stay on! I have to flip the power switch off for 10 seconds to get it to start working again, and then it will only stay on for a few minutes at most. Then, this light does not support HomeKit! After spending thousands of dollars on lights that can all be controlled through HomeKit, it’s very disappointing that Hue’s new products do not support it. Makes me reconsider all that I’ve invested in their products.

These lights were a replacement for a previous set of 6" Hue down lights purchased from Amazon. The first set was easy to install since the lights they were replacing were screw-in lights, but they had the problem on not fully turning off which is very annoying. I called Philips about this issue and they said that there's nothing they could do about the lights not turning off, but recommended these lights as a replacement. I purchased the second set, but discovered that they have a junction box that needs to be hardwired into the fixture, so unless you have those skills you will need to hire an electrician at additional cost. This fact was not readily apparent to me from the conversation with the Hue rep or from the description of the lights.
Awesome install, bright, but way too much glare.

The installation of this recessed light is so easy and innovative! It's also super bright and beautiful! However, recessed lights are intended to be _recessed into the ceiling_, with a baffle to prevent glare from directly looking at the light. This is flush with the ceiling, which means it shines directly in your eyes, so bright as to leave afterimages. I would love to see an adapter for this and all Hue recessed lights that customizes the baffle shape and depth. Just pieces of plastic, so they could be cheap!

The light is great for what it is. I have a new house that has lots of downlight with standard outlet boxes instead of cans, so I had been disappointed that there was no way to install hue lights until this product. It was a bit of a bummer that there is no 4" (as that's the size of the old ceiling hole) and it requires the included electrical box so installing them was a lot more effort than I would have liked. I had to remove the existing box and cut a larger hole. But once installed they are great.

I had been waiting for Philips to make lights in this form factor, the wait was worth it. I've bought similar lights from other manufacturers and let me just say, from the minute you put your hands on these you know you've got something of much better build quality. As with all my other Hue products, I plugged then in and they worked. I DID have to add them by serial number, I chalk that up to them just bring released and maybe my hub wasn't updated ymmv.
Good functionality, pairing is a huge headache

I purchased 16 of these slim lights and installed in three rooms. Once these were installed and paired with the Hue bridge they work great. But! Pairing them was a huge pain because the bridge only found 4 out of 16 lights automatically and the rest had to be paired by serial number. Pairing by serial number requires knowing the serial number. Forums for Hue fans have shown me that Hue veterans write down the serial numbers as soon as they open the package, but I was a newbie and didn’t do this. That meant that when I needed the serial numbers later, I had to go back up the ladder, take out 12 of the lights, find the serial number on the back of the electrical box (not even on the back of the slim light itself). It was a pain. I wish Philips offered more ways to find the serial number and/or an easier way to connect to the bridge.

this light is exactly what I have been looking for. The functionality of Hue in a much cleaner package. The electric box is much more robust than other Wafer lights I have installed.
